First Year in UK

Well.....it's been almost a year since Alan and I packed up everything and started out big adventure and it has been a big adventure!! We started off buying two cars instead of renting one and they have worked out well. Finding a place to live was a much bigger challenge. We had wanted to live in the village of Tetbury. We found a house and after waiting a week found out the landlord had rented it before she left on holiday. Then we found two others which were rented before we could get back to the agents to make an offer. The agent we were working with at the time knew of the "perfect place" but the landlord would not allow dogs. We explained to her we could not leave our Coco behind so she decided to talk with the landlord to see if she could influence her. It took three phone calls and our meeting them personally....but they agreed. So August 1 we moved into the village of Calne. Though it was not our first choice, the house is larger and is centrally located in Wiltshire. Therefore, it has worked out well. With that done we started exploring our new surroundings in Wiltshire. We live only a few miles from the village of Lacock. They are currently shooting a movie there with Judi Dench. In the cloisters of the Abbey they also filmed two of the Harry Potters. Marlborough is also close by and it's claim to fame here is it has the widest street going through the village. Which does not seem like a big deal but if you've ever tried to find parking in one of the villages you will understand. It also has Polly's Tea room (our favorite place for breakfast) and the quickest route to the M4. Avebury is close enough to ride our bikes to and it has some additional rock's that they have concluded date back further than Stone Henge. Castle Combe, Chippenham, Swindon and many other smaller villages are all around us. We love riding through them and stopping to look at anything we find interesting. Especially the churches.

Since our arrival here we have had a few family members visit. My Mom came over for two weeks in November and we had a wonderful time showing her London and many of the other places I have named. She cooked Thanksgiving Dinner for us while she was here so we did not miss out on her dressing. My sister Angie and her husband Dave were in London to celebrate their &* birthdays and 27th anniversary. They came out to visit us for a long weekend before they finish their trip in Paris. We've had a wonderful time with all of them.
